HEPA Filter
HEPA in HEPA filter stands for "high efficiency particulate air filter". HEPA filter manufacturing machines are the type of mechanical air filter that are considered as the highest efficiency air filters available for the filtration of small particles. They are capable of removing up to 99.97% of airborne contaminants of 0.3 micrometers or microns (µm) in size. To get an idea on micron - we cannot see anything beyond 10 microns with our naked eyes, our hair is between 70-100 microns, pollens are within 5 - 100 microns.
HEPA filter manufacturing machines are very efficient in removing the majority of harmful contaminants like dust, dust mites, mold spores, pet dander and other irritating allergens from the indoor air. HEPA filter use can prove very useful to the people who get disturbed due to the presence of allergens in the air.
HEPA Filter Machines
HEPA air filter is largely used in critical filtration applications in a number of industries. HEPA filter manufacturing machines play an important role in filtering air and enhancing the air quality in the nuclear, electronic, pharmaceutical, and aerospace fields, where superior quality filtration is required. The manufacturing process of HEPA filters require different types of machines. The latest enhanced technologies are used in the production processes.
HEPA filter has the history of development too. The first HEPA air filter was designed for Manhattan project in 1940 to stop the spreading of airborne radioactive contaminants. It was the time of World War II. During this period the Atomic Energy Commission required the protection of its researches from radioactive dust particulates. In the year 1950 it was commercialized and registered trademark is used for the HEPA filters. With the passing time, HEPA air filter evolved a lot and there comes their use in applications like aerospace, hospitals, nuclear fuels, health care and many more.
HEPA Filter Working
HEPA filter work in three stages, which are:
- Interception
- Impaction
- Diffusion
Interception is the first stage in the working of HEPA air filter in which the flowing particulates in the air get adhered to the filter. This process is common in all types of air filters.
In impaction stage the large particles collide with the fiber of HEPA filter while moving with air and get stuck.
This is specific to HEPA filters as very small particles are trapped in this process. The small particles because of their light weight do not travel in a straight line but in a random fashion. During this they collide with the HEPA filter fibers.
HEPA Air Filter Rating
HEPA air filter is rated before selling. The rating tells the minimum micron size that can be captured by HEPA air filter. The true HEPA filter is the one that can capture the particulate of 0.3 microns and this rating is written on the Hepa filter machines as well. So if you want to buy the true HEPA filter then check for the rating. There are some HEPA like filter that are not true HEPA so cannot capture the particulates of 0.3 microns. Rating will thus help you in finding the true HEPA air filter.
