HVAC filters are the filters used in the HVAC systems to remove dust or
particles from air stream. They are used for filtering low levels of dust,
typically in the air conditioning and ventilation industry. The HVAC filters
are made of highly porous beds of resin-bonded glass or plastic fibers with
their diameters ranging from 1 to 40 micrometers (µm). The main
function of fibers are to collect airborne dust. The typical area of use of
the HVAC filters is in the industrial or domestic heating ventilation or air
conditioning system.
Types of HVAC Filters
The HVAC filters are classified on the basis of the materials used as the
filtering medium. On that basis there are two main types of HVAC filters,
which are largely used.
- Fiberglass Filter: The fiberglass filter is typically
manufactured using heavy cardboard frame with layered fiberglass
reinforced with a metal mesh, which is provided for support from
collapse. These filters are used in most HVAC filtration applications.
- Polyester Filter: Polyester have higher resistance and dust
trapping capabilities than the most fiberglass filters. They are
efficient than the fiberglass filters.
What is HVAC?
HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning, the three most
closely related fundamental functions found in homes, offices, and other
building structures. It is sometimes also referred to as "climate
control". The HVAC systems are important in the design of medium and
large industrial and office buildings, and in marine environments such as
aquariums, where humidity and temperature are needed to be closely regulated
while maintaining safe and healthy conditions within.
Use of HVAC
The main use of HVAC system is to regulate humidity, room temperature, and
air flow and ensure that these elements remain within their satisfactory
ranges. The effective control of such factors helps to minimize the
health-related hazards. A high humid atmosphere is obstacle in regulating
the body temperature because it prevents the evaporation of sweat. It may
also lead to decrease in physical strength, which can cause fatigue. Finally
an unhealthy surrounding can affect people's thinking abilities. It also
increases the risk of hypothermia, heat stroke, and hyperpyrexia. They are
disposable items and widely used for air cleaning in mechanical ventilation
systems.
Three Functions of HVAC
HVAC is all about heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning. These are the
three function. Which these systems are required to efficiently, effectively
and economically.
- Heating: During cold weather, heating is significant in
maintaining adequate room temperature. The two classifications of
heating are: local and central. Central heating system is more commonly
used because it is inexpensive. The heating system consists of furnace
or boiler, heat pump, and radiator.
- Ventilation: Ventilation is concerned with air movement in
and out of the room. There are different types of ventilation however
they all function similarly. It ensures exhaling of carbon dioxide and
inhaling of oxygen, so that people get fresh air. The stagnant air is
responsible for the growth of bacteria and fungi such as molds because
of high humidity. Insufficient ventilation may lead to spreading of
sickness and allergies. So it is essential to maintain an efficient
ventilation system.
- Air Conditioning: It controls heating as well as ventilation.
They come in different sizes. Most of the air conditioners have large
air ducts, so it is good to check out the building first to see if they
can be installed. The air ducts should be properly cleaned regularly so
that the pathogens mayn't thrive in dirty air ducts.
Applications of HVAC Filters
HVAC filters are used in a number of industries. Some important of them
are:
- Pharmaceutical Industry
- Chemical Industry
- Cement Industry
- Wood Industry
- Food Industry
