Pleating machine is used to create pleats on a large variety of materials. Its main function is to form pleats on different types of materials whether on fabrics, papers, drapes, upholstery or mesh.

Prior to the augmentation of the pleating machines, manual pleating was the common and popular method used for pleating. Manual pleating is very time consuming and results in high costs as compare to machine pleating. There were several disadvantages and drawbacks of manual pleating, like uneven pattern of pleats, non-uniformity in the thickness of pleats, etc. Finally all these result in poor quality products. Then the pleating machine was adopted in the pleating technology, which made the entire process simpler, faster and cheaper.

What is Pleating?

Pleating is a traditional Japanese technique. Through pleating special kinds of patterns known as pleats are created. In the pleats, accordion pleats are the most common of all the pleating in which the material is folded to get fan type pleats. It is a mechanical process used to create some special kinds of patterns in materials, like fabrics, meshes, sheets etc. The patterns are created using heat, pressure and tension in which the fabric is folded upon itself into an accordion-like configuration. This process is followed by placing the fabric in a heated chamber to permanently set the shapes. This is the machine pleating.

• Rotary Type Pleating Machine: The rotary type pleating machines are used for the products, which are required to be produced in huge numbers and hence need a very high speed production. The size of the pleats can be varied by changing the set of the pleating rollers. In filter industry this type of filter pleating machine is used when the similar products are made.
• Push-up Pleating Machine: Push-up pleating machines are special improved pleating machines used for creating controllable and non-repeating pleated patterns in all materials.
