Ultraviolet Water Filters

Ultraviolet
water filters/purifiers are the latest water filters offering efficient
water treatment. They provide clean and pure water by removing all living
organisms and other contaminants.
Ultraviolet water purification is an unique and rapid technique to remove a
number of microorganisms, like bacteria, virus, algae, mold, etc without the
use of heat or any chemicals. It is an effective method of water
disinfection for many applications because nothing is added to the water. In
addition to excellent disinfection performance, it is a simple, inexpensive
process and requires low maintenance. It is more reliable than other methods
of water filtration.
Working of Ultraviolet Filters
Ultraviolet water filters purify water by ultraviolet purification, which
is a proven technology. It is capable of removing microorganisms, such as
bacteria, viruses, algae, and fungi, causing waterborne diseases. When water
is passed through the UV chamber, it is treated with concentrated amounts of
UV light energy, effectively killing all microbes.
Role of Ultraviolet Light in Water Purification
Ultraviolet light is part of the light spectrum. It is classified into
three wavelength ranges: UV-C, from 100 nanometers (nm) to 280 nm; UV-B,
from 280 nm to 315 nm; and UV-A, from 315 nm to 400 nm. In all these three,
UV-C is responsible for water purification, that's why also known as
germicidal ultraviolet. It deactivates the DNA of pathogens, like bacteria,
viruses, etc and destroys their ability to grow and cause diseases.
By forming covalent bonds between certain adjacent bases in the DNA, it
make damages to the microorganisms. Formation of such bonds restricts the
DNA from being unzipped for replication, and so they are unable to
reproduce.
Applications of Ultraviolet Filters
The ultraviolet filters/ purifiers cover a wide range of applications as
they provide the most efficient water treatment and disinfectant process.
- Bottling Manufacture: They are very usable in water bottling
industry, breweries, wineries, soft drink, etc as they insures bacteria
free water for various purposes.
- Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Industries: In these industries,
the bacteria free water is a must as it insures abidance with strict
water treatment standards, which is essential for product quality
control.
- Hospitals: The ultra-pure water is required in hospitals and
pathology labs for kidney dialysis and post disinfection rinses. The
ultraviolet filters provide bacteria free water, which is essential for
various types of tests.
- Food Industries: In food industry pure water is required as
an additive to several products. The ultraviolet filters insures
bacteria free water.
- Wastewater Treatment Plants: They offer an excellent post
water treatment of secondary effluent, which help reducing bacterial
concentrations to safe levels without adding any toxicant.
- Nurseries: Root rot infection is a common problem in nursery
trees and plants, which is caused by diseased water supply. Bacteria
free water helps minimizing the losses.
- Swimming Pools: Helps control bacteria, algae and slime
formation. Ultraviolet water purification system helps to reduce the
amount of chlorine substantially.
- Laboratories: Ultraviolet purifiers provide ultra-pure
water, which ensures accurate testing and research .
- Farms and Ranches: Ultraviolet filters provide hygienic
water, mainly free from bacteria, which is good for animal drinking. It
helps increase the production by eliminating losses due to water-borne
infection.
- Electronics Industry: Insures bacteria free water for use in
conjunction with de-ionized and high purity water systems.
- Aquariums and Hatcheries: The ultraviolet filters have become
essential in aquariums and hatcheries. They provide bacteria free water,
which prevents disease organisms from spreading or growing without
producing any by-products toxic to marine life.
Advantages of Ultraviolet Filtration
Ultraviolet filtration technology is a non-chemical approach to
disinfection of water. Neither any chemicals nor any other thing is added in
this process thus making it simple and inexpensive. It requires very low
maintenance. They use germicidal lamps, which are designed to produce a
calculated dosage of ultraviolet (generally at least 16,000 micro-watt
seconds per square centimeter).
- The UV filtration is highly effective on wide range of pathogens,
like E.coli, Giardia, Cryptosporidium, etc.
- This filtration technology can be easily installed within existing
water treatment facilities.
- During the filtration process no harmful disinfection by-products are
formed.
- It is effective as a stand-alone or as a part of a multi-barrier
treatment strategy.
- No awful taste or odor is added to water during the filtration.
- Inactivation independent of pH and temperature.
- It require less installation and operating costs.
- There are no hazardous risks for operators.
- No chemicals are used.
- Very simple to operate.
